My disappointment in this novel's conclusion is my own fault so I own that. Having read numerous paranormal romances featuring the soulmates theme and given that this book was a good length I honestly thought that the author would follow suit with other authors in this subgenre and provide a full and satisfactory conclusion to each couples' story in each book but she didn't. Granted there is an ending but I didn't find it particularly satisfying. It was this same misguided logic that caused me not to read the reviews. I don't read reviews as diligently as I used to b/c I find the inclusion of spoiler in a review without prior warning highly irritating. Lately, it seems that a lot of reviewers don't know the difference between a review and a synopsis that pretty much gives the entire storyline away, i.e. a spoiler. Therefore, I really didn't bother reading the reviews for this book prior to ordering it.

That being said, this novel was still an okay reading experience so I gave it 2.5 stars. The author's plot provided a great opportunity to distinguish itself from the proliferation of books housing the paranormal soulmates theme through world building but the author fails to adequately seize the opportunity fully. However, I did like Reily and Octavian tremendously and think that the author did a pretty good job with their character development and chemistry. I also liked the supporting characters. Loved the comradery between the brothers, the intense loyalty among the members of the Maxwell family and how they readily accepted Riley. The H and h's chemistry was sizzling but consummation of their relationship was a dismal disappointment. The so called love scene lacked the vibrancy and "trans-portiveness" that most adults prefer in depictions of physical love. In fact, the love scene and much of the entire novel felt more like something written for teens or young adults. The love scene here actually reminded me of the lack luster one between Bella and Edward in Breaking Dawn (Twilight Saga) In fact, Juvenile writing styles and lack luster love scenes are a couple of reasons why I stopped reading books in the YA genre. The vilians were pretty obvious but it was nice to have them confirmed at the end. The story moved at a slower pace than I would have liked but I didn't get bored per se. The story is told from a 3rd person prospective which was perfect. The story contains romance, action, and humor. I really felt empathy for Reily and her lost child hood, sacrifices and, quite frankly, pretty depressing existence prior to meeting the Maxwells. Moreover, what she became seemed really unfair. There are some typos but I didn't find them overly distracting.
Despite the cons, I still found enough to like about this novel that made it an okay reading experience. Nevertheless, I'm glad that I only spent .99. I can't really recommend this novel unless you like YA books and don't mind an ending that doesn't quite tie up all the loose ends. Some might see it as a cliffhanger ending but I don't b/c the next book moves to another brother's story and from what I gather from reading a few of the reviews Reily and Octavian don't play a major role in the story. I don't plan to read the 2nd book in the Series primarily because I met the heroine who will be featured in the next book and I really, really didn't like her. I regret this a little b/c I really liked Gideon.

Octavian Undoing Sons of Judgment Book 1 edition by Airicka Phoenix Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews

This book piqued my interest and it did deliver - sort of. So much happened in this story that sometimes I felt there should have been more explanation and time for the characters especially Riley to take it all in as she seemed to go from one trauma to the next without any real time to process it let alone understand it. Nothing seems to faze her although I think most people's reactions would be to curl up into a corner and be a blubbering mess - not Riley. I liked the family dynamics and how close they all were and that they became the family she never had or thought she deserved as her parents did not deserve her loyalty. The brother's rivalry and banter with each other and Riley was fun to read and made me laugh at times. Daphne has the best one liners and is refreshingly unfazed by everything and would make a cool friend in the real world. My only negative comment if you can call it that is after spending the whole book trying to not give in, they ended up making a deal with the devil after all but I guess they were screwed either way so the lesser of two evils right?
It will be interesting to see whether who wins the war and what side they end up fighting on!
This book started off great but then went downhill. Loved the characters, the brothers banter and their family relationship. It did have too much information and the book 1 & 2 part was confusing. Some parts of the book had me skipping through the paragraphs. Heroine had a sad life but was endearing and sweet with a little fire. The dad situation fell short for me too. Hero was sexy, brooding and strong enough to make you want him but later on he got weak and a little pathetic. Brothers were goofy, fun and strong. Loved his family all together. Loved her friend but I guess more on them in another book. You feel so bad for the main characters but it went on and on about them not being to touch or she will die. It was more repeat of the fact that got annoying. I didn't like the Angels being bad or worse as demons.
I just finished reading this book, overall I think it took me about 10 hours from "cover" to "cover". Why? Because it was AWESOME!!!

Octavian is a Caster, a judge of sorts for Creatures of the Veil. One of the 3 rules passed down from Heaven is to never touch a human. Then in walks Riley and oops, he couldn't keep his hands off her. They are drawn to each other like a moth to a flame, they can't seem to stay away and fall for each other quickly. Everything is stacked against them it seems and just when something gets worked out, another HUGE kink in their plans and lives happen. Both of them are willing to risk anything, except each other, to save the lives of the other. In the background, there's a war brewing between Demons and Angels and it seems the two of them are caught right in the middle, along with Octavian's family and anyone else they love.

****Possible Spoilers****

I loved this story. I couldn't believe the twists and turns it had and would be almost gasping for air as I read about their fight for survival. I was shocked beyond words when learning of "what" Octavian and his family are. I did NOT see that surprise coming. I loved the humor and the wit throughout the book. I was laughing so much through this book at the one liners and sarcastic remarks. And the romance, while there was some sexy parts, they weren't too horrible that someone who didn't want to read them, couldn't skip over them. I just have to say that the parts I read were pretty tastefully done and steamy.

My favorite parts of the book? Octavian's banter with his brothers. The twins absolutely cracked me up to no end. I loved the way his parents treated each other...with reverence and love. Daphne was a very welcomed surprise. I couldn't quit figure out her story, hadn't guessed it, until it was revealed, but I thoroughly enjoyed her part in the story. Honestly though, I can't remember a "favorite part" because I enjoyed the entire book and would end up quoting it in its entirety. Ugh, now to wait for book 2!!!
